Lindy Peters first served on the City Council from 1992-2004 when he was elected to 3 consecutive terms and served one term as Mayor from 1996-1998. After a 10 year hiatus, he ran for City Council again in 2014 and was elected as the top vote-getter in a tight race. He served as Vice Mayor from 2014-2016 and began his term as Mayor on December 12, 2016 when he was unanimously elected by the current City Council. Peters is the only Mayor in Fort Bragg's history to serve a second term almost exactly 20 years after he began his first term in the Mayoral office. Mayor Peters serves on the City's Public Safety and Finance & Administration Committees, and is the City's representative to the Mendocino Transit Authority. Lindy Peters’ term on the Council expires in December 2018.
Born in San Rafael, he was raised in Davis, California where he lettered in high school football, basketball and baseball. He received a basketball scholarship to Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington where he spent 2 years on the varsity squad before transferring to University of California at Santa Barbara and graduating in 1975 with a B. A. in Dramatic Art and a minor in Political Science. He then went on to College of San Mateo and achieved an A.A. in Broadcast Journalism. After working at 2 stations in the Bay Area, he moved to Fort Bragg in 1981 to take a job at radio station KDAC and become the voice of Timberwolves football and basketball games. He moved to KMFB in 1983 and spent 32 years as the Morning Man and Sports Director. He is married to Sarah and has a son Lucas from a previous marriage.
